On Saturday, May 25, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the 
following statement regarding Burma:
" France is very concernedby the recent developments of the interior 
situation in Burma and particularly by the arrests of a large number of 
political dissidents of the National League of Democracy (NLD). 

France invites the different parties to moderation in the call for the 
restoriation of a genuine dialogue between the SLORC and the democratic 
opposition, a dialogue tending towards the engagement in the didrection 
of national reconciliation. "
