senate sanctions bill & GATT
GATT is a way for corporations to use governments against each other to
achieve the lowest common denominator (cheapest production, maximum profit)
by defining as "illegal trade barriers" such things as environmental and
endangered species protections. Labor also hates GATT.
I had thought that the sanctions bill doesn't just impact U.S. companies but
would also bar any Burma-made products (from any company) from being sold on
U.S. soil. In the case of any business with Burma, though, it really
doesn't matter because SLORC hasn't signed the thing.
