Burma Angry at U.N. Official

Rangoon -- Burma's military government has accused a
United Nations official of abusing its hospitality by
meeting with democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi during a
recent visit, a state - run newspaper said Thursday.

Giorgio Giacomelli, executive director of the U.N. Drug
Control Program, met with the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize
winner on the last day of his Feb. 7 - 11 visit to Burma.

Since her release from house arrest last July, Suu Kyi has
called for a dialogue with military leaders. They have
spurned her calls and told foreign leaders and diplomats
they are not welcome to visit Burma if they want to meet
with her.
