South East Asian Job Description

Subject: SEA Job Description

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant
professor, pending funding, to begin August 16, 1996.  The successful
applicant must have a Ph.D., should be developing a strong research
program, and be able to teach both graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants must be qualified in one of the social science disciplines,
including history.  Specialization in Burma, the Philippines, and/or
Vietnam preferred.  Interest in SEA immigrant communities in the U.S. is
desirable.  The successful applicant will be expected to complement and
enhance the research and teaching agendas of the departments currently
represented in the Center.  A letter of interest, curriculum vitae, a
list and brief description of courses taught, sample publications and a
list of three persons to be contacted for letters of reference should be
sent to the Screening Committee, Center for SEA Studies, NIU, 412 Adams
Hall, DeKalb, IL 60115, before November 7.  NIU is an EO/AA Employer.
