SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1995--Howard Johnson Franchise
Systems Inc., announced here today plans to expand into Indonesia, Malaysia
and Thailand through a master license agreement with Singapore-based
Hospitality Systems Asia-Pacific, Pte, Ltd., (HSA).
Howard Johnson Franchise Systems Inc. is the franchisor of an
international chain of more than 600 Plazas, Hotels, Park Square Inns, and
Lodges with approximately 67,000 rooms throughout the United States, Canada
and Latin America.
Howard Johnson now has master franchise agreements in India, Mexico, the
Caribbean, South America, Canada, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
"Howard Johnson's growth through its existing master license agreements
has been tremendous," Howard Johnson Vice President J. David Young said.
"We are confident that this agreement with HSA fuels Howard Johnson's
success in the Far East."

into the Asian market," Howard Johnson President and Chief Operating Officer
Eric Pfeffer said. "We believe that HSA will be instrumental in expanding
the aggressive international growth that Howard Johnson launched in 1990."

the world," Channing Kent, co-principal of HSA, said. "This is a great

The 40-year agreement calls for the development of Howard Johnson
Hotels, Plaza Hotels, Suites and Resorts throughout Indonesia, Malaysia and
Thailand through the conversion of existing properties and new construction.
HSA has also been granted an option to develop Howard Johnson properties in
Singapore, People's Republic of China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam,
Hong Kong, Myanmar, Nepal, Laos and Cambodia.
Hospitality Systems Asia-Pacific was co-founded by Mei-Ling
Chan-Bernard, a 25-year veteran of the hospitality industry in the United
States, Europe and Asia, and Channing Kent, a developer and business
consultant. Chan-Bernard has been affiliated with Hilton Hotels
International, Holiday Inns and her own Bernard Hotels. Most recently, Kent
has been involved with property development in Southeast Asia.

well-positioned to provide for the needs of the growing mid-market lodging
segment in the Asian/Pacific region," said Chan-Bernard.
