PARIS (Variety) - Cannes International Film Festival director Gilles Jacob
unveiled a lineup predictably light on major studio films, with most American
product coming from the mini-majors and specialty divisions. The most
anticipated studio release in the 24-picture competition is John Boorman's
Malaysian-shot, Burmese-set political drama ``Beyond Rangoon.'' The film
stars Patricia Arquette and Frances McDormand. Disney has two runners already
released stateside, Tim Burton's ``Ed Wood'' and James Ivory's ``Jefferson in
Paris.''
