BURMANET: WHY KAWMOORA FELL

BurmaNet has a report that the reasons for the fall of Kawmoora were
twofold. First was the damage caused by the SLORC's artillary shells
with delayed fuses. The shells would impact, digging into the ground
2-3 feet before exploding some time later. The second reason,
according to this report, is that the Thai military had reached an
agreement with the SLORC to withdraw some distance from the riverbank,
allowing the Burmese troops to come through Thailand unhindered to
strike at the rear of Kawmoora. It is worth mentioning that the source
is not Karen. For a longer look at the politics behind the current
fighting see <BURMANET: REMEMBER IMET?> in BurmaNet #113
