An estimated 30,000 SLORC soldiers are engaged in a heavy attack
on Manerplaw from three directions, and on Wan Ka.  The SLORC said
in December that there was no planned military offensive against the
ethnic groups.  At the same time the SLOR Cwas increasing their roundup of villagers
villagers as porters for this massive offensive.
The Karen National Union urgently asks you to write to Thomas
Hubbard, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific
Affairs, Dept. of State, 2201 C Street NW, Washington DC 20520
We need the State Dept to contact the UN Secretary General asking for UN-supervised peace talks between the SLORC and the KNY.  There is a need for
the Sec. General to use his good offices in this emergency situation
by immediately sending an envoy to the Thai-Burma border to bring
and end to the armed conflict.
