Re: China, Indochina to develop tourism on Mekong

BEIJING, Dec 14 (Reuter) - China and five Indochinese neighbours are to
develop tourism along the Mekong river that flows through their countries,
the Xinhua news agency said.

Representatives from China, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Vietnam and Thailand
are attending a five-day seminar in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming
to discuss ways to increase exchanges and cooperation to develop tourism on
the river, the agency said late on Tuesday.

The six countries plan to cooperate in infrastructure projects and
tourism facilities and seek more economic and technical help from other parts
of the world, it said.

The seminar, the first of its kind, is jointly sponsored by the United
Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Asian
Development Bank, it said.

The 4,880-km (3,032-mile) Mekong originates in western China's Tibetan
plateau, where it is known as the Lancang River, and flows through the five
other countries.
