For those of you who are tired of just hearing news from the eastern burma
border, here is some western news.

Inside Burma: News from the Western Front.
>From the FIST newsletter of the newly formed coalition of students 
in India called the All Burma Students League, India.

In April 1994, the army confiscated paddy fields without compensation 
around the Kyawk Sit Pong Village situated in the township of Mon Ywa.  It 
will be used by an artillery regiment.   Villagers from 20 nearby 
villages were forced to provide labor for the new base.

2000 acres were confiscated from farmers of Kyawk Kar and Tha Naung Win Ywa 
villages along the road from Mon Ywa to Kyauk Kar Village without compensation.
  An air force base is planned for that site.

5000 acres were confiscated for the construction of the North West Military 
Base division in the north of the Mon Ywa's road to Ye Oo in the past 
three years. The entire Kha Wea Kyin village was wiped out for this camp.

Mon Ywa is know to be the largest producer of wheat, bean, maize, etc.in 
the whole country. According to the All Burma Student League, India, 
this " is now being turned into a totally deserted land under the 
military strengthening program in Burma.
