emergency Mon refugees
NSC BUSINESSMAN GAVE PRESSURE TO MON LEADERS
NSC advisor or businessman flew with holicopter to Payaw Mon refugee Camp
on 22nd August and met Mon leaders including New Mon State Party
President Nai Shwe Kyin and others Central Committee member. Have not
known yet who accompanied with him and where he got holicopter. But he
did not fly to the make-shift shelter of Mon refugees in New
Halockhani. A well placed sourced source said, in the meeting, there
are arguments between Mon leaders and businessman regarding the third
cease-fire talks hold from 27th June to 2 July in Southeast Military
Command of Moulmein, capital of Mon State in Burma. He condemned the
Mon leaders because the cease-fire talks was in deadlock. Mon leaders
explained about the restricted discussions of SLORC representatives but
he did not accept.
In the meeting with Mon leaders, he suggest three points as follow:
(1) To restrict the activities of Mon troops around the
Three-Pagoda-Pass area and not to make any fighting with Burmese troops
in this area.
(2) On July 21, Burmese troops burnt down just three hous the Palai
Dumpai village, one section of Halockhani Mon refugee camp, which
refugees burnt down the rest their own houses by themself with a plan to
make a trouble to SLORC delegate U Ohn Kyaw in ASEAN meeting hold in
Bangkok, as Mon troops encouraged them. For this incident, to make
investigation for sure.
(3) The Mon refugees in New Halockhani make-shift cshelter must
return back to their former camp of Burma side and stay under the orders
of Ninth Division of Thai Army situated in Kanchanaburi province.
In the meeting, he threatened to Mon leaders that he will arrest
the Mon leaders who travel to Bangkok or in Thailand, if they refused to
meet with SLORC for fourth cease-fire talk as quickly as. For the time
being, he said, he want to see Mon refugees return back to their former
camp as quickly as. He also accused Mon leaders that they stopped Mon
refugees not to return back. He asked Mon leaders to make an
arrangement for the meeting between the Mon refugees and the Commander
of Infantry Battallion No. 61 of SLORC troops in Three-Pagoda-Pass. The
Mon refugees, over 6000 population, fled into Thai side of the border
from Halockhani Camp of Burma side, after the SLORC Infantry Battallion
No. 61 attacked and burnt down their houses on July 21. SLORC troops
also took 16 refugees as porter and hostages and escaped only five of
them as camp source. At the moment, the Mon refugees were blocked by
Thai Border Patrol Police which got the orders from Ninth Division of
Kanchanaburi, for transportation of food and medicine supplies.
