Political Defiance Update
Inside Stories- CRDB
Aung Thinn, a popular speaker and essayist, was recently scheduled
to speak at the Rangoon YMCA on the topic of "inheritance".
Instead, he addressed the country's current economic and social
problems including corruption and hte role of foriegn investment.
He told his audience of mostly young people, "You have to learn a
lot, readmore and find a better education." He criticized
Singaporean business interests arguing that the small island national
only wanted to sign logging contracts with the slorc. He warned,
"if you decide to join an organization, be careful. Every time you
become a member of a group you can be manipulated by older
men." His advice may be seen as a veiled attack on the SLORC
inspired Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA).
