Burma may get a cool reception in some quarters, but a trade mission let
by Minister for Trade Lt. Gen Tun Kyi is expected to get a warmjer
welcome than it expected when it starts a 4 day visit to Thailand tomorrow.
Gen. Tun will call on Commerce Minister Uthai Pimchaichon.
At Bangkok International Airport, he will be met by Chart Thai Party
leader Pramern Adireksarn adn a deputy commerce minister.
At first, the Commerce Ministry was to send only the deputy commerce
permanent secretary to meet the Burmese minister. But Mr Uthai changed
his mind after he learned that Mr. Pramern would be there.
A source said the tentative schedule would enable the mission to study
export procedures at the Foreign Tratde Dept. A small meeting on trade
issued had been arranged but the scedule was changed after Burma adviced
that trade officials could not join the delegation.
The mission will call on Mr. Uthai on Wed. morning and visit the
textile factory of TTL Industries Co in the afternoon. The remaining two
days will be spent visiting Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chinag Rai.
Thai-Burmese trade totals about 5,000 million baht a year.
