Their arrests were prompted after the military authority's discover
the letter which is criticizing them. Burma's ruling authorities,
the State Law and Order Restoration Council said Dr Aung Khin Sint
was arrested for "writing leaflets criticizing the government." U
Than Min, an NLD member was also arrested with Dr Aung Khin Sint
for "distributed illegal documents." The leaflets are reported to
be the anonymous letters delegates received in May 93, threatening
them for participating in the National Convention. The National
Convention has started in Rangoon in Jan 1993 as the junta's
attempt to legalize its rule on power. The purpose of the National
Convention is to introduce a new constitution that will give the
military a leading political role. Critics of the junta calls its
as a sham National Convention and said the junta just wanted to
delay the transfer of the power to the National League for
Democracy(NLD) party which won over 80% in the elections in May
1990.

Those who were arrested above were related to their criticism
against the National Convention. According to rule of the junta,
anyone who criticize the junta would be consider as a criminal.
Six of them were released after interrogation, but most of the
others have been tried and sentenced to between two and 18 years.
